- Hokkaido — Asahikawa — Dry inland cold. Small hills on rotation. A car-free week is realistic.
- Nagano — Hakuba (Happo knot) — Alps by shuttle. Home hill by day, a different village's bath by night.
- Niigata — Echigo-Yuzawa — Shinkansen as the spine. Station as base; that day's mountain is the outing.
